Decoramos el OMAU en La Noche en Blanco || We decorated OMAU in "La Noche en Blanco"

(english version below)

On May the 11th we had the pleasure of creating a decoration for OMAU, it's an amazing observatory located on a exceptional zone in Málaga, with an astonishing view

The event held was La Noche en Blanco, which is a once in a year cultural night were you can enjoy lots of free activities around the city. This year theme was "Sustainability and Recycling", something were OMAU has lots to say: Lectures, organic wine tasting, urban gardens, ecologic beers, Djs, concerts, exhibitions… even a short film contest where we placed the furniture.

With such a committed theme we really dive right into it and decided to put ourselves to test getting out of our usual line of work and doing something we've never done before… restoring!
We had the confirmation for this event we a few months in advance and the aesthetic line was decided just at the beginning, every single piece we were going to use should have been used before, had another life. We spend months scavenging, we turned our cars into vans, our target were the containers and the moves around the city. Until that moment we weren't aware of the amount of the useful things people discard everyday, the streets are full of treasures and we just need to learn how to look for them!

Surfing the net we found out that pallets, with the proper work and aesthetic treatment, had a million uses. Before the contest we screened some of the images we selected from the net, including no just the pallets but lots of beautiful, modern and fancy decoration solutions made from objets people throws at the containers everyday.

The furniture from the terrace were the film contest took place consisted in a set of chairs we gathered and restored, three sofas made out of pallets and some big reels and fruit boxes used as tables.

On the other hand, we were gathering every can we used at home (pineapple, mushrooms, peppers…) and after applying some paint to them, they turned into perfect vases we placed strategically all around the place.

At the beginning of the event, the garden was going to be full by kids because some of the activities were specially planned for them, so we built a tipi in the lawn, it was made of wooden slats, rope and cloth. Since the event was going to finish at night, we decided to add some interior lighting, the kids loved it and the adults took lots of pictures of it.

The conclusion it's that gathering furniture from the street, picking up pallets and buying flowers and aromatic plants from the local market we made the perfect decoration for OMAU, a place we fell for, not just for the view or the impressive building it's located in, but for the life it breathes and everything we got to do "forced" by it, opening a new door in our minds to other ways of decorating events.

Jasone & Mihai, globos y mariposas || Jasone &Mihai, buterflies & balloons

(English version below)

Jasone and Mihai's wedding was celebrated in Balmaseda, a beautiful little village in Vizcaya, during November. You'll think that's a risky move but not by far, it's not risky if you've got a 90% chance of raining!, but if you're from Bilbao, like Jasone is, that's not a problem, you just need to celebrate your wedding inside a gorgeous old cloister reconverted to hotel, call MALGENIO Workshop to decorate the place and there you go, your dreamed wedding, come hail, rain or snow!

The starting point for the design was the general image and the invitation, the bride send us some butterflies to put inside the invitation card, these butterflies spring out of the card as soon as you opened it! It was decided, the leitmotif for this wedding was going to be "butterflies". For the different applications we used a pattern that was designed for the occasion and the invitation turned out great, as you can see.

When it came to the decoration, our challenge was to turn the stone patio where the wedding took place into the cocktail room and into the ballroom afterwards. Two decorations, just one room!. For the wedding we choose a subtle and more romantic combination with a curtain made of tulle strips, candles and chairs with their initials for the bride and groom, when night fell we turned the room into the ballroom, with giant purple balloons tied to the pond, located in the middle of the room, and white pompoms over the stone arches matching with the lights to get a more festive look.

On the way to the banquet hall, on a wooden pergola, was the table plan with a card for every guest with their name and table number, everything in the same graphic style as the invitation and the table number.

The ceiling of the dining room was made of mirrors, this played on our favor when we decided to give it a dramatic effect placing white balloons on every chair, bringing the room to life with a spectacular effect. With every guest sitting on their chairs the balloons played a part marking off every table boundaries.

We weren't in charge of the centerpieces, so we designed pearly mauve numbers with matching little butterflies and cards in the shape of a butterfly with the name of every guest handwritten for the sitting.

We hope this pictures show you how it's possible to have a beautiful wedding even on a rainy day, you just need to be ready for it and adapt the place and decoration to the weather. People in the north also got the right to get married!

(English version below)

Carmen and Esteban's wedding was a fairytale wedding ... literally.

They arrived in a car (not a carriage, because they are quite slow) to the Palace (Monte Miramar) and they went up the red-carpeted stairs to pass under a welcome sign held up by balloons that read:

"No admittance to witches and stepmothers, is strictly forbidden to bring poison apples, spinning wheels and that kind of things incompatible with love and princesses"

A declaration of intent to put the guests into situation, this wedding wasn't a normal celebration, it had a storybook ending, an "and they lived happily ever after" ending…

We decorated the garden with lots of butterflies made from old book paper, and also put one in each centerpiece and strategic places because butterflies can land anywhere.

Instead of using numbers for each table we designed a books collection with titles that had a special meaning for the couple, instead of sitting on the table 1, 2 or 3, you had to sit on tables called "The Lord of the Rings", Red Riding Hood in Manhattan, Ocean Sea… Carmen works on a bookstore and since she loves her job, we thought this little detail will make the celebration even more of her own.

For the photocall we recreated a theater-like fairytale stage, with a banner reading "Happily ever after…". Every accessory was related to the tale of Sleeping Beauty: Fairy Godmother caps, the Prince hat, Aurora's crown and many other accessories for the guests, so they could have a great time taking fairytale pictures.

The dancehall was filled up with white and golden balloons, creating a magical atmosphere for the couple first waltz, they danced surrounded by balloons at different heights and white ribbons.

The candy cart was placed in the same room, with the most fairytale decoration ever, beige and pink colors with a sweets selection by Julia Cupcakes who also made the wedding cake, topped with the figures of the Sleeping Beaty and The Prince dancing. This wasn't just the top of the wedding cake, but the party itself!

We're not really sure if Carmen and Esteban eat partridges (that's the typical spanish ending expression for the fairytales), but the thing that we know for sure it's that they're eating lots of cupcakes because we see them in Julia Cupcakes quite often, and they look as in love as the first day we met them!

And they lived happily ever after... ... ❤

Una boda muy salvaje || A wedding in the jungle

(English version below)

Today we're going to show you Carmen and Vicente's wedding, which they celebrated in El Realengo, a piece of the jungle in the middle of Málaga. And so it was how they celebrated their love surrounded by friends, bamboos, giant trees, birds and an artificial lake. We did our best to make this wedding as romantic and colonial as possible, with an informal feeling because they made emphasis on a wedding for all the family.

Some of the lovely photobooth accessories were brought by the bride, and they were gorgeous: an old cabinet, a sewing machine, some fabric banners… some very british props that gave us the idea for the colonial feeling, perfectly achieved with the jungle background, we know for sure this was one of the most eye catching decorations, competing hand in hand with the strips fabric tent made for the dance. The fabric were chosen in toasted colors to match with the wooden floor, this combination gave intimacy and a warm but festive look to the dancehall.

The cocktail was celebrated on a wooden pergola on the outside, we created a cascading decoration out of white and beige paper lanterns and pompons that gave the environment a festive look without losing any of it's natural feeling, as we said before the scenery was gorgeous so we tried to enhance it's personality above all.

We wanted to take advantage of the background for the seating chart, so we tied a couple of cords to some trees around the lake and hanging from them the numbers for each table, every guest had a card with their names hanging from the rope with a mini-peg.

For the diner room and the dancehall we keep the same leitmotiv, to go with the environment while enhancing it, so we went for the white as the main color followed by toasted and natural tones. The best man gave us some wheat, so we tied it to the cards made for the guests, these cards had a quote chosen by the bride and groom.

Centerpieces were made out of white flowers, candles and crystal jars with a rustic feeling, the menu was printed in a wooden textured paper and set in natural wood frame, giving an homogenous look to the tables. We wanted to make the bride and groom centerpiece to stand out from the others so we used a greenhouse made of white wood and crystal, we didn't make just a centerpiece but a center of attention!

Finally, for the little ones we made some sweet bags and put them on a wicker chest which the entertainers then hide to play a funny gymkana
